Birds soaring through the sky have fascinated humans for centuries. How do they stay in the air effortlessly, gliding without constant flapping? While early civilizations may have assumed that birds were simply light enough to stay afloat, modern science has revealed the presence of invisible air currents that assist their flight.
These unseen forces, such as thermal updrafts and wind streams, help birds conserve energy and travel vast distances. However, over 1400 years ago, the Qur’an already alluded to this hidden phenomenon, describing how birds remain aloft by the will of Allah. In a time when air currents were completely unknown, this verse stands as another testament to the divine wisdom of the Qur’an.
Allah Himself says:
At first glance, one may miss the significant connotative layer of meaning here. There are many verses in the Qur’an that end whilst portraying a significant attribute of Allah. Some end with "Indeed, Allah has power over all things", and others end with different attributes. In this case, Allah refers to Himself as the "All-Seeing", which connotes that He literally sees what is causing a bird's wings to fly, which are air currents, as they have also been placed there by Allah.

When birds soar, they gain altitude and travel quicker with the energy provided by the air currents, found in the atmosphere. These are invisible to the naked eye, but Allah’s knowledge of this is further proof of how Allah is knowing of all things, seen and unseen.
