When studying the Qur’an, we must acknowledge how the information was relayed to the Prophet Muhammad, who received the holy book piecemeal over 23 years.

In fact, the Qur’an was revealed in verses that were not always consecutive, meaning the Prophet would receive one verse for one chapter and then another verse for a completely different chapter.

Yet, the Qur’an still manages to have immaculate properties, constantly corroborating the nature and world around us.

The Mentions of Land and Sea in the Qur’an

For example, when analyzing how many times the word “bahr” (sea) is mentioned in the Qur’an, we find it appears 32 times.

Similarly, the word “barr” (land) is mentioned 13 times.

When we add these together, we get the total mentions of land and sea in the Qur’an: 45 times.

Comparing the Ratios in the Qur’an and Science

If we calculate the percentage of land mentioned in relation to the total, we get:

(13/45) × 100 = 28.89%

Likewise, for water:

(32/45) × 100 = 71.11%

Now, when we examine the earth’s actual composition, modern science tells us that 29% of the earth’s surface is land, while 71% is covered in water.

Conclusion

Although numerology in the Qur’an is fascinating, it should not be the sole reason for belief in the holy book. Instead, it serves as a remarkable example of the purity and perfection of the Qur’an.

Finding such precise patterns in a book revealed over 1,400 years ago reaffirms its divine nature and the wisdom contained within it.
